QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Ask a Question-
Can I connect the chimney with a propane heater to an existing chimney to a wood stove? I am looking for a way to have multiple types of heaters in case I run out of wood to heat my small house.
Hello,
You cannot run the solid fuel heater and the propane heaters through the same chimney as the solid fuel is a rigid single pipe for just exhaust, the propane heaters have a 1.5” pipe inside a 2.5” pipe and the inside pipe is exhaust and the pipe overtop is air intake. I would not work. Both chimneys need to be separate. -
Is the window screen removable?
Hello,
Yes the screen is removable for cleaning purposes, but Dickinson Marine installed it as an extra safety measure and reccommends keeping it on the window besides for cleaning purposes. -
can it be configured to natural gas. Also what diameter is the the direct vent pipe
Hello,
Yes Dickinson can have it converted to CNG for a $95 fee. The Flue is 2.5 inches in diameter. Let us know if you have any other questions, and if you would like to place an order for a converted version, please give us a call so we can customize the order for you. -
Can the Newport p9000 be made to accept natural gas?
Hello,
They can convert it to CNG, for a fee of $95. If you are ok with the extra charge, give me a call at (800) 975-2413, and I can put in the special request for you. -
Will this unit function properly at higher altitudes in the range of 6000’-10000’?
Hello,
Dickinson guarantees their heaters up to 2000 feet in elevation. You might run into some issues in that altitude range. Dickinson does have smaller orifices to offer based on previous customers experiences at 10,000 ft with a #75 drilled orifice, but they cannot guarantee operation as they have not officially tested this. Let us know if you should have any other questions, and if you decide to purchase with the smaller orifice, please make sure to imput it in the special notes section. -
Do u make pellet heaters for sailboats ?
Hello,
Dickinson Marine does have a solid fuel heater we sell, that should work fine for saleboats. The link is below if you would like to take a look!
Dickinson Marine Newport Solid Fuel Heater
If you should have any other questions, feel free to ask. -
Are the flue extensions flexible? I will need to make two 45 degree bends for my install. Thanks!
Hi Zac,
Yes the flue extensions are flexible. -
Does it run without electricity in case of power outage?
The fan used to vent the fumes does need either AC or DC power to run, so unless you have a backup power system, the fan will not work if there is an outage.
-
Hello, does this product have everything needed to operate it? What are the bare minimum essential accessories? Thank you
Hi Emily,
The only accessories you would need to add on to your purchase would be a low pressure propane hose, a regulator, fittings, and if you prefer, a solenoid. With these add ons, you should have everything needed for your install. Let us know if you should have any more questions. -
How many BYU’s will this unit put our?
Hello,
The Dickinson P9000 should be putting out anywhere from 3200 to 4500 BTU. Let us know if you have any more questions. -
Do you need electric power to run this gas heater?
Yes the unit does come with a 12v power hookup.
-
What would be the total price for the heater and all the needed accessories to install this in a teardrop camper?
Hello, that all depends on which accessories you decide to purchase with your unit. But a general ballpark would be around $1200. Let us know if you should have any other questions.
-
Can this heater be left on when the humans are out? For example, to keep a pet warm while i am at work?
Hello, The heater does have an on and off switch but has no thermometer. So basically what I am saying is it will not shut off at a specific desired temperature. If you choose to leave it on when nobodys home, It could get a little bit toasty depending on how small your living space is. I personally would not leave the unit running while not home. I would also advise that if you do decide to do this, do it at your own risk...even though these heaters are safe, it is always wise to have a person there in case something happens. I would not want anything to happen to your home or pets so I would suggest no.
-
Can this be used in an airstream trailer? What type of venting termination would be best?
Hello,
Yes, the Dickinson Marine Newport P9000 Propane Fireplace can be used in an Airstream trailer. However, it is important to follow proper safety guidelines for installation and operation, and to consult with a licensed professional if needed.
As for the venting termination, it is recommended to use a stainless steel marine flue kit, which can be installed vertically or horizontally depending on the specific layout of your Airstream trailer. This type of flue kit is designed to be safe and efficient for use in mobile applications, such as RVs and boats.
It is important to note that proper venting is critical for the safe operation of propane appliances, and any installation should comply with local codes and regulations. It is recommended to have the installation performed by a licensed professional, especially if you are not familiar with propane systems and venting requirements. Let us know if you have any other questions.
-
Can the heater be used as a hot water heater/ supply ?
Hello,
No this unit cannot be used as a hot water heater. The Dickinson P9000 propane heater is not designed to be used as a hot water heater. The P9000 is a cabin heater that is designed to heat the air in a small space, such as a cabin or tiny home. It is not designed to heat water and does not have any of the necessary components, such as a water tank, heat exchanger, or thermostat, that would be required for use as a hot water heater.
If you are looking for a propane-powered hot water heater for use in a small space, there are several options available on the market, including tankless propane water heaters designed for RVs and tiny homes. It is important to choose a unit that is appropriately sized for your needs and that is rated for indoor use in your specific application. Precision Temp and Eccotemp would be our recomendation. Let us know if you have any other questions.
