Experience the perfect blend of comfort, efficiency, and sustainability with the Separett Villa—the most advanced, trouble-free composting toilet for both on-grid and off-grid lifestyles. Previously known as Separett Villa 9215 and Separett Villa US, this trusted model combines Swedish engineering with practical design to deliver a clean, odor-free, and waterless bathroom experience anywhere.

High Capacity for Everyday Comfort

Designed with a 6-gallon solids container, the Separett Villa effortlessly supports both continuous and alternating use. It’s ideal for everything from weekend cabins to full-time family living. For example, a holiday home with five people typically needs to empty the solids container only every 4 to 6 weeks—making maintenance simple and infrequent. Thanks to its efficient urine-diverting system, you’ll enjoy unlimited use capacity without the hassle of frequent emptying or odors.

High Reliability and Easy Installation

Built for dependable performance, the Villa offers high operational reliability and a design that fits neatly in the same space as a standard toilet seat. Continuous ventilation from the built-in fan ensures constant airflow, keeping the toilet area odorless and fresh. The smart view screen automatically conceals dry waste whenever the toilet isn’t in use—raising your comfort and hygiene experience to a new level.

Smart Technology for Off-Grid Flexibility

Operate the Villa on 110–240 V AC or 12 V DC (with solar cell or battery power). Its powerful 12V fan can handle venting systems up to 20 feet long and includes three 90° elbows for flexible installation. Extremely energy-efficient, the fan uses only 0.06 kWh per day, making it perfect for solar setups or battery-powered homes (battery and cables sold separately).

    Installation Instructions:

    Toilet placement

Separett Villa has no requirements for room temperature and works in both cold and warm spaces. The only requirements are that you must be able to lead the urine away and fit a ventilation pipe.

The toilet is made to be placed on the floor against the wall, and for extra stability it should be attached either to the floor, the wall or both.

Drill holes according to installation template

The installation instructions show possible installation options for urine drain and ventilation pipe through the wall, the ceiling or the floor. The installation template shows the places for holes in a simple installation through the wall behind the toilet.

    Install ventilation pipe

The toilet is designed for 3" schedule 20 or schedule 40 PVC ventilation pipe. This U.S. standard pipe has an external diameter of 3.5". Separett Villa can be installed with up to 20 feet of ventilation piping and three 90-degree bends. Ventilated air can go through a wall, floor or ceiling, for example, up into an attic and out through a suitable side of the house. If there is already a ventilation pipe present from a previous toilet installation, the toilet may be connected to that duct, provided that it is not smaller than 3 inches and that it meets the piping requirements.

The toilet comes with a coupling for connecting the toilet to 3 inch schedule 20 or 40 PVC pipes.

    Install urine hose

The toilet is delivered with a 6 1/2 ft urine hose. To connect this to the toilet, use the included straight connector or the 90-degree elbow.  It is possible to connect the urine tube so that no pipe is visible where the toilet is installed. This is achieved by angling the 90-degree elbow downwards or using the straight connection leading the pipe out through the wall behind the toilet.

Recommendations for installation of urine hose

Villa provides the option of installing the urine hose without any visible pipes/tubes in the bathroom. Below are a few tips that should be followed to maintain a well-functioning urine outlet over time and all year round.

    • If you are going to go through an insulated wall or a wall with an air gap between the inner and outer wall, you must use a pipe for the penetration, or lead the hose through a pipe. Pipes are used to reduce the risk of pests causing damage to the tube.
    • If you are going to run the urine a longer distance than the 6 1/2 ft of the supplied hose, you should switch to a pipe after the 6 1/2 ft. Since urine contains minerals that can accumulate in pipes/ hoses, we recommend that the subsequent pipe have an internal diameter of at least 1 1/2" to avoid blockages.
    • Make sure that you always have a downward inclination of at around 2 degrees (0.8 inch per 40 inch) throughout the piping, also make sure that there are no air pockets created by bends in the hose.
    • If the toilet is to be used in winter, outdoor pipes must have an internal diameter of at least 1 1/2”.
    • If the toilet is to be used in winter, we recommend that you insulate outdoor pipes with pipe insulation. This insulation can be bought in most DIY stores.
    • An important rule for longer installations (over 6 1/2 ft) is that the sooner you switch to pipes with a larger diameter, the lower the risk of blockages in the pipes.
    • Do not place pipe joints near electrical appliances or wall sockets. This is to prevent liquid from coming into contact with electricity in the event of a leak.

    Handling of the Solid Waste:

Many people dispose of toilet waste the same way they would dispose of diapers, but it’s also possible to compost it into nutrient-rich compost.

Keep in mind that the waste is not composted when you empty the bucket. Human waste should be composted for at least 6 months, preferably 12 months, to ensure pathogens are eliminated. Mixing garden waste, kitchen scraps, and toilet waste helps speed up the process and improve the result. A good rule of thumb is to plan for at least 30 gallons (110 liters) per user, using two containers so one can rest while the other is in use.

Always use a sealed bin or a container with a collection tray to prevent leaching. Make sure it has a solid lid and secured ventilation grates to keep out rodents, insects, and rain.

No need for an agitator or bulking material

Many composting toilet models on the market include an agitator. However, effective composting requires significantly more volume and higher temperatures than what these compact toilets provide, making an agitator unnecessary in units of this size.

Agitators also introduce components that come into direct contact with waste, making them harder to clean and increasing the risk of mechanical failure.

Separett toilets remain odorless thanks to an efficient ventilation fan, without the need to add bulking material or stir the contents. In fact, adding bulking material to the solids container can cause it to fill up faster and may even damage the fan, as fine dust particles can be drawn into the ventilation system.

    Handling of the Liquid Waste:

Many users connect the urine outlet from Separett Villa to a greywater system, a soakaway, or a sealed urine container for later disposal. However, urine can also be reused as a valuable fertilizer. When diluted with water at a 1:8 ratio, for example using the Separett Ejectortank, it becomes a safe and nutrient-rich fertilizer suitable for non-edible plants. Urine contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, all essential for healthy plant growth.

If storing urine, use a closed container and empty it regularly to avoid odor. Never allow urine to run directly onto the ground without proper treatment like a soakaway. A simple soakaway can be made by digging a pit about 24–40 inches (60–100 cm) deep, filling it with gravel or stones, and placing a perforated pipe into the center. Cover with a breathable layer to prevent blockages and odors.

Always follow local regulations when handling greywater or using urine as fertilizer.

      Questions & Answers

      Have a Question?

      Ask a Question
      • What is the wattage of the vent fan running on 12 Volts DC?

        Hello,

The fan runs on .2 Amps.  Let us know if you have any other questions!

      • When you walk by that side of your house where the venting is, is there an odor?

When you go to the bathroom and have fresh solids in there, there may be an initial odor, but there shouldn't be a lingering one coming out of the vent.

      • will this Separett Villa 9215 AC/DC Urine Diverting Toilet work in a van with gray water tank ?

Yes, you would just need to plumb the urine into the gray water tank. You will also need to have venting for the toilet as well.

      • can you run the outside vent pipe up above the roof, because it seems like the smell will be outside instead of inside

You can but it is not necessary. If you vent the toilet outside there could be miniscule to no smell.

      • What do I do to the unit during winter to avoid freezing?

Your only concern would be the urine freezing. But with that said Urine freezes at around 23 F. According to Separett: You should ensure that the urine waste pipe has a drop along its entire length and use at least 50mm (2") pipe outdoors. It may also be a good idea to insulate the piping sections that run outdoors if you get a lot of freezing temperatures in the winter.

      • Are these different than the 9210 model available in Canada? Do you ship the9215 to Canada?

        Hello,

The only difference is that 9215 comes with pipe adapters from metric to imperial, and a international AC power adapter, usable anywhere in the world. So yes, 9215 will work in Canada.

We have been trying to contact a Canadian distributor but have had no response.  I will reach out again today and update you if we can get one shipped out to you.  Please reply to this with your address, so we can contact the appropriate warehouse.

Let us know if you have any other questions

      • I am renovating a 1951 Spartan trailer, which has a wet bathroom, would this work? I really love this unit, and think its our best option, but want to make sure it works in a wetter environment. Thanks

        Hello,

If used in a wet area, we recommend that a shelf or fold down seat be over it to keep water from directly going on the toilet. The seat configuration will allow water to get in to the main chamber.

The goal of the toilet is to dry the solid waste with ambient air. The wet environment can hinder that. Let us know if you have any further questions.

      • What is the storage capacity of the solids container? Does the vent fan do a good job at controlling odors?

        Hello,

The solids bin on the Separett Villa 9215 can hold about 6.1 gallons (23 liters). When used regularly, this container can hold solid trash for three to six weeks.

Odor control: The fan creates a constant airflow, pulling odors out of the bathroom and venting them outside. Buyers say that the fan does exceptionally well at getting rid of odors.  We have not received any complaints from our customers about any smell.

Drying of solid waste: The airflow also helps dry the solid waste, reducing moisture and further minimizing the chance of odors developing.

The fan operates on both AC (standard household electricity) and DC (battery or solar power), making it versatile for both on-grid and off-grid applications. Proper installation of the vent pipe is crucial for ensuring optimal odor control. As long as the system is installed correctly and the fan is functioning properly, most users find that odor is well managed.

Let us know if you have any other questons.

      • What size is the fan? 80mm x 80mm x 20mm?

        Hello,

The fan for the Separett Villa 9215 composting toilet has a diameter of approximately 105 mm (4.13 inches) and a thickness of 25 mm (0.98 inches). This fan is designed to be easily replaceable and fits specifically within the housing unit for the Villa 9215 model. Let us know if you have any other questions.

      • Does the fan run 24/7. Is there a switch to shut the fan off ?

        Hello,

The Separett Villa 9215 AC/DC toilet fan does not run continuously. Instead, it has a built-in fan timer that automatically turns the fan on when the toilet is in use and turns it off after a set amount of time. This helps to conserve power and extend the life of the fan. However, if you need to turn off the fan manually, there is a switch on the side of the fan housing that you can use to do so. Let me know if you have any other questions.
