Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • How do you clean the toilet itself? Do you flush it out with water once in a while

    Hello,

Cleaning the Toilet Bowl: Since the system is waterless and relies on composting, you should avoid using large amounts of water to clean the toilet itself. Instead:

Use a moist cloth or sponge to clean the toilet bowl's interior on a general basis. Although you can use gentle, biodegradable cleaners, it's crucial to stay away from harsh chemicals (like bleach) that can interfere with the composting process.

Spray bottle method: For regular cleaning, some users keep a spray bottle close by filled with a solution of water and mild soap or vinegar.

Compost-friendly goods: Because chemicals can harm the microorganisms involved in composting, make sure any cleaning supplies you use are suitable for composting toilets.

Steer clear of excessive Usage of Water:

The system isn't built to manage a lot of water; it can only handle solid waste and small volumes of liquid waste, like pee.

Water flushing can overburden the system and delay the composting process, so avoid doing so.

    Upkeep:

Moisture control: Since the system is waterless, it's important to regularly monitor and adjust the moisture content inside the composting chamber. Maintaining the right moisture balance and aeration can be facilitated by adding bulking materials (such as wood shavings or peat moss).

Regular inspection: To prevent any odor or moisture problems, periodically check the system for excess liquids and make sure the ventilation is operating correctly.

You may maintain a clean toilet without interfering with the composting process by according to these recommendations.

  • Does the toilet have to be a certain height above the composting unit? If so, how much higher?

    Hi Renee,

We studied the installaion manual, and there is nothing that recommends a certain height for the toilet above the composting unit.  I have attached the installation manual below for your review and the pages to review are 7-9.  Page 7 shows you need a minimum 28" in height for the compost container, and page 9 says (the waste pipe should be no longer than 15 feet without installing a clear out port(a Y fitting with screw on end cap) near the toilet to provide easy access should it be required). This would be in case of cloggage.  I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.

  • How do you obtain the toilet to go with the composting component?

    Hello Renee,

Thank you for reaching out to us!  Above the add to cart button, there is a drop down menu where you can purchase the composting component with the toilet of your choosing.  If you are looking to only purchase the toilet, simply reply and I can draft an order for you.  I hope you had a good weekend, and I look forward to hearing from you.  Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
