Introducing the brand new ThinkTank Waterless Toilet, a revolutionary composting toilet designed to address the major issues with existing models. This waterless urine diverting toilet is the solution you've been looking for!

The ThinkTank Waterless Toilet boasts an upgraded ventilation system with the best fans on the market, providing exceptionally long life (estimated at 150,000 hours), high power ventilation, and quiet operation. This feature also enables longer vent pipe runs, making it even more versatile.

Constructed with durability in mind, the ThinkTank Waterless Toilet is almost bulletproof and can support large individuals weighing over 350lbs. Plus, with its patented trap door, you can easily and comfortably urinate standing up.

Upgrade your Tiny Home bathroom with the ThinkTank Waterless Toilet and experience the benefits of a sustainable and eco-friendly sanitation solution. Say goodbye to wasteful flush toilets and hello to the future of composting toilets!

Features:

  • Easy to Clean:  Most waterless and composting toilets have a bowl, with a small trap door for solid waste. A mess results every time. The Thinktank Waterless Composting toilet utilizes a large chute, with vertical walls which avoids the mess and simplifies your cleaning.
  • Air Tight Under Normal Operating Conditions:  The Thintank Waterless Composting Toilet, is 100% Odor Free through its patented airtight design, draws all ventilation air from outside, circulates it through the toilet, and exhausts the same air back outside. This saves a great deal of money over time, is far more efficient, avoids any smell, and is environmentally friendly.  Because the toilet is tightly sealed, entry by insects is virtually impossible. This solves another major problem with the competitor waterless and composting toilets.
  • Patented trap door:  Conceals the waste at all times except when going #2. Only then is the trap door opened. At all other times the trap door remains closed, waste is hidden, and people can pee anywhere in the bowl without having to aim.  This design allows men to stand when urinating – in contrast to other toilets where men must sit.
  • Larger Solid Waste Bowl:  The opening for solid waste is huge, with vertical sides. This overcomes most of the unpleasant clean up associated with many other waterless and / or composting toilets. With other toilets, waste can hit the sides of the bowl, making a mess. With the Thinktank, very little waste will hit the sides, and clean up is easier.
  • Equipped with the Best Fans in the World:  Thinktank Waterless  Composting Toilets use the best fans in the world. They have exceptional output (high cubic feet per minute rating), powerful static pressure (strength of airflow rating), are very quiet, draw low power, and have an incredibly long life (rated at 150,000 hours). The toilets are designed for these fans to be easily accessible and removable.
  • Bulletproof Design:  All metal parts are high quality marine grade stainless steel.
  • Strong Body Design:  The Thinktank Waterless Composting Toilet is incredibly strong. The shell is rotationally molded like a white water kayak. This is the strongest possible way to build something in plastic.  Rated at 350lbs plus, the Thinktank is Big guy approved!
  • Energy Efficient:  Thinktank Waterless Composting Toilet works on either 12 volt (a deep cycle 12 volt battery) or 110 volt power (normal household electricity) with the supplied wall transformer.
  • Easy to Install:  The urine drain pipe can be switched to either side with basic hand tools.
  • Simple to Use and Maintain:  No need to add Peat moss or turn a handle to operate.  The Thinktank also uses inexpensive, widely available compostable bags.

 Use & Maintenance:

1.
Keep the trap door closed when only peeing.
2.
The capacity of a container is approximately 40-60 solid poops. This can vary depending on how much toilet paper is being used, and how often it is used. With less frequent use, the waste will have more time to dry and shrink. Toilet paper can be placed in the toilet. However, capacity can be increased by putting pee paper in a separate bag.
3.
The fan should run 24/7 if possible. If you are leaving for an extended period you can disconnect the fan and either empty the toilet, or put the lid tightly on the waste container.
4.
The Thinktank was designed so the fans could be very easily accessed and regularly cleaned. Use a vacuum cleaner every month or so to vacuum dust off the fan. This will eliminate the need for a dust screen on the fan. Dust screens drastically reduce airflow, and you want to maximize airflow.
5.
There are two insect screens included – one for the intake and one for the exhaust. Place one insect screen at the end of each pipe. If your exhaust vent goes through the roof, or if you live in an area with few insects you may wish to try leaving the exhaust insect screen out. This will improve airflow. Also, it is difficult to clean an insect screen if the pipe is on your roof. Since air is constantly being pushed out the vent by the fan, insects will seldom be able to enter through the exhaust vent. Note: the insect screen on the intake is essential. Insect screens must be removed and cleaned regularly – at least once a month in summer.
6.
The solids opening for the Thinktank is huge compared to many other toilets with vertical walls. This means that solid waste should only infrequently contact the sides of the bowl. Unlike most other waterless toilets, cleaning the bowl is required less often. When it does need cleaning, spray a little water on the chute and wipe it clean with a paper towel. The paper towel can be dropped into the toilet.
7.
Clean the toilet with non-abrasive liquid cleaners only. Treat the toilet like an acrylic bathtub. Avoid abrasive cleaners - including cream cleaners.

Waste Disposal Procedure:

1. If you are in doubt about the safe treatment of your waste, contact the local authorities to find out which health and environmental regulations apply in your region.  It is your responsibility to ensure the waste from your toilet is safely composted or otherwise disposed of.
2.
Once the container is full, you can scoop some wood pellets, cat litter or other compostable material onto the waste in the container, to conceal the waste. This is optional.
3.
Ensure the trap door is CLOSED.
4.
Open the upper body of the toilet, CAREFULLY securing it open with the latch pin.
5.
Push the trap door arm backwards, until it engages with the magnet at the rear of the toilet.
6.
You may wish to tie a knot on the compostable bag at this point. This is optional
7.
Place the lid on the container and remove the entire container from the toilet. DO NOT lift out the compostable bag. These bags can break! Note: A full container can weigh 25lbs (11kg). If it is difficult for you to lift 25lbs, you may wish to empty the toilet when the container is less full.
8.
Carry the container to your compost bin, remove the lid, and turn the waste container upside down. Dump the contents and the compostable bag into the compost bin. DO NOT lift the bag out of the container, as it could be partially composted already and may break!
9.
Cover the waste in your compost bin thoroughly with dry grass, leaves, soil, etc.
10.
Put a compostable bag in the container. You may optionally secure the bag in place with an elastic band around the rim of the waste container.
11.
Place the empty container back in the toilet. If the previous bag broke, which occasionally happens, you should rinse out the waste container and wipe it dry first.
12.
Close the trap door arm over the waste container. THIS IS VITAL.
13.
Check and make sure the trap door is closed.
14.
Release the latch pin and carefully return the seat to the closed position.

Won't be installing for another month, but everything is there and as described.

Ideal Solution

We had a complicated set of requirements. The ThinkTank and helpful folks at Tiny House Essentials resolved our conundrum. The ThinkTank just arrived, but we won't install it until late next month. Cabin building in remote areas takes time, after all. If possible, I'll submit an addition to this review (with pics) after we get it installed and use it for a month or so! :-)

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • What size is the waste container? I am looking for an additional one?

    Hello,

The ThinkTank Composting Toilet features a waste container with a capacity of 5 gallons (approximately 19 liters). This size is fairly typical for compact, waterless composting toilets, providing sufficient capacity for regular use before needing to be emptied, depending on the number of users and the frequency of use. The waste container is designed for easy removal and emptying as part of the toilet's maintenance routine.

Let us know if  you have any other questions

  • Where does the urine go what is the pipe hooked up to ?

    Hello,

This drain tube can be connected to a French drain, a grey water system, or a holding tank, allowing for various disposal options based on the installation setup and user preferences.

This setup eliminates the need to manually empty urine containers, making the Thinktank waterless toilet more convenient and hygienic for users.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Under the circumstances of, shall we say, too much Mexican food, could a little coconut coir be added to the solid waste bin to speed dehydration of the waste and make it more pleasant for the next user?

    Hello,

Thank you for the question.  You do not need to add coco coir or anything else to the Thinktank. It wouldn't make a difference because the toilet is already 100% odor-free when used at all times. This is because of the dual fan and exhaust vent system. If you add any coco coir, it won't speed dehydration but will only reduce capacity.  Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Hi, just found your toilet. I am so impressed by the thoughtful design and quality of construction. Being totally ignorant of composting toilets, I have spent the afternoon researching. I do understand the airflow idea when the trap door is open and the airtight aspect when closed keeps the bathroom area free of poop smell. My question is this (if it's okay to get a little specific)... under the circumstances of, shall we say, too much mexican food, could a little coconut coir be added to the solid waste bin to speed dehydration of the waste and make it more pleasant for the next user? Thanks, Sarah

    Hello,

According to the inventer himself, no coco coir or anything else ever needs to be added. It wouldn't make a difference because the toilet is already 100% odor-free when used at all times. This is because of the fan and exhaust vent. It will not speed dehydration, but will only reduce capacity.  Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Can this Think-tank be installed in a RV, any options to secure it for a moving "house"? Thank you

    Hello,

it's a qualified yes. The toilet always secures with 6 stainless screws through the bottom. Movement is not a problem. Space may be. It's too big for many smaller and/or older RVs.

Mobile applications require a bit more thinking in advance. All waterless and composting toilets produce some odor, and this must exhaust well away from anywhere people might gather. Furthermore, the Thinktank blows a lot of air. It's one of the reasons it works so well. Far more air than other waterless or composting toilets. So you must be extra careful with the exhaust and plan carefully.

If it can go through the roof, that is ideal. Should be simple and easy.

Because the vent pipe run in an RV is probably very short, you could probably step down the 3 inch vent pipe to 2 inches, reducing airflow - and the potential for odor. There is a damper valve on the air intake which can accomplish the same thing. However, you may not be using the air intake... Lots to think about!

You might try to find vacuum hose that fits. It should be 3 inch ID. This will make installation easier and you would just have a hose clamp at either end rather than multiple joints with PVC pipe. This is trial and error, because vacuum hose is very unreliably sized. For example, 3 inch vacuum hose could easily be 2.9 inches ID - and that won't fit on PVC fittings.

I hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions.

  • What type of toilet paper is acceptable to use? Can normal toilet paper work?

    Hello,

Normal toilet paper works fine for this toilet.  Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Does the excrement just sit in the biodegradable bag with nothing covering it? What keeps the second, third, fourth and so on person from getting hit in the face with a BM odor?

    Hello,

When the trap door is open, it becomes an air intake. The fan will be drawing air in through the opening. So no odor escapes when using the toilet. In fact, we find that with the Thinktank there is no odor at all in the bathroom area during or after use, unlike a flush toilet. No covering is needed. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Does this have a switch to turn the fans off? Do the fans run constantly or turn off periodically? I am completely off grid and am worried about draining my system with the fans continuously running. Thank you.

Completely off grid installations are common. Here is what you need to know: 1) The fan uses 3 watts of electricity. This is 0.25 amps in a 12 volt system. Almost nothing.  The fans do run continuously.   2) A switch could easily be installed, but everything works better if the fans run at least most of the time. The fans evacuate a lot of moisture and the waste shrinks. However, if necessary the fan could be turned off with a switch or even just unplugged from the toilet. Or you could use a short extension cord with a switch. 3) Fans last longer if kept running all the time. It's the on and off that wears them out. Hope this helps. Let us know if there is anything else.
